Want to Excavate

The 1999 season of excavations uncovered a 16-seater toilet block, the south gate of the fort and large sections of fort walls, as well as many exciting artefacts. Amongst the special finds from the 1999 excavations were a Christian stone, possibly a portable altar from the 6th century, pushing the occupation of the site into the sixth century. This artefact has given rise to as much excitement as the discovery of a post Roman Church on the site in 1998 excavations.
